Woman shot dead, son whisked away
When shall we feel safe again?
The Anambra State Police Command is currently trying to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing of a middle-aged woman and the kidnap of her six-year-old son by gunmen at the Upper Iweka axis in the commercial city of Onitsha.
Daily Sun gathered that residents and passersby beheld the gory sight of the body of the woman suspected to be a traveller at the Upper Iweka fly-over.
The body of the deceased was found in the early hours of yesterday by passersby, who said she might have been a victim of ritual killing, adding that her son was forcibly taken away from her and that there was a gunshot wound on her body, indicating that she might have been shot while trying to resist the abduction of her son.
Policemen, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Central Police Station, Onitsha, Mr. Abdul Yusuf, arrived the scene of the incident and took the corpse to Onitsha General Hospital mortuary.
The DPO, Onitsha Central Police Station, Yusuf Abdul, who confirmed the death of a woman at Upper Iweka, dismissed the rumour that the deceased was a victim of ritual killing.
